Owain Glyndwr & Welsh Heroes
Pub Night 2009

The Colorado Welsh Society will hold its annual Owain Glyndwr & Welsh Heroes Pub Night on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant, 5050 S Syracuse Street (just north of Belleview), Denver.  The evening starts with dinner (off of the menu) and a social hour at 6:00 pm.  The evening program will follow the social hour.

Our Welsh hero this year is David Lloyd George.  He was the only Welsh Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and held office from 1916 to 1922.  English was his second language.

There will be a talk on David Lloyd George as well as Owain Glyndwr.  Owain Glyndwr was proclaimed Prince of Wales on September 16, 1400 and led a successful revolution against the English for a period of 10 years.  The evening will include a performance by the Welsh Folk Dance group.  There will be talks on the various activities of the Colorado Welsh Society, plus singing in both Welsh and English.

An added feature of the evening will be the attendance of three authors of books on Wales:  Peter Griffiths, Kathleen Cunningham Guler and Ginny Grove.   Peter Griffiths has written the book “Tongue Tied”, a story of living in Wales in the early 1900’s, a time when the Welsh were struggling with their language and desire for independence from England.  Kathleen Cunningham Guler’s fourth book in the Macsen’s Treasure Series, “A Land Beyond Ravens” has just been published.  This is a series about the adventures of a master spy, Marcus ap Iorwerth in fifth century Wales, the era before King Arthur.  Ginny Groves has written three books which feature a wandering bard in sixth century Britain, including Wales.
There will be information on their books as well as copies of the books for purchase.  The authors will be available to answer questions about their books and to autograph them.

Everyone is invited to attend this evening of celebration, reservations are not required.  There is no charge for the evening, other than your meal and drinks.   For more information contact Sam Kuntz, 303.886.0632 or .
